By Brian Yorkey & Tom Kitt. This groundbreaking and award-winning musical explores how one suburban family copes with crisis. With powerful lyrics and an electrifying pop-rock score of more than 30 songs, this intense, emotional and ultimately hopeful musical aims right for the heart with its story of a family coming to terms with its past and bravely facing its future. The Rep is among the first regional theaters in the United States to produce the show following its long Broadway run and National Tour. The Milwaukee production features the dynamic creative team behind last season’s smash-hit musical, Cabaret.

Featuring Niffer Clarke and Richard Carsey. Beyond the Ingénue pays homage to the golden-voiced sopranos Niffer Clarke grew up idolizing. These musical theatre icons endowed the ingénue--the ‘‘girl next door’’--with wit, spine and spirit. As their careers progressed, they also re-invented themselves, and their journeys have inspired Niffer on her own voyage of selfdiscovery and revelation. This will be an evening of glorious music, fun stories and Niffer’s amazing personal tales of touring with Shirley Jones!

30 years ago in Milwaukee, Present Music performed their first concert and the Shepherd Express published their first issue. On January 7, we celebrate. For the first time in Present Music history, the audience has chosen the music. Through online voting, six contemporary music selections were chosen – from hauntingly beautiful to fun and quirky – the top voted choices will be revealed at the concert. Present Music and the entire audience (yes, you) will perform, Souvenir, a multi-media, glow-in-the-dark extravaganza for the senses. No rehearsal required – just get your ticket for the concert! But wait, there’s more -- the Present Music ensemble is also looking for 15 additional instrumentalists to join them in Souvenir. These performers will create sound effects with their instrument of choice – no skill, only enthusiasm is required. Interested? Climb up into your attic, dust off your high school band clarinet, flute, tuba or whatever and email us at newmusic@presentmusic.org.
