By Jon Guare. When a young African-American man shows up at the New York apartment of well-do-do-couple Ouisa and Flan Kitterdige, he immediately charms the couple with his stories and claim of being Sidney Poitier’s son. Telling the couple he has been mugged and is out of money, Paul gains the trust of Ouisa and Flan and finds a place to spend the night. But when the light of day comes and Paul’s stories begin to unravel, his saviors start to see they may be part of an elaborate con game. As the truth reveals itself in this funny and frank play, questions arise about what it truly means to have a charmed life.

For over a century, Gilbert and Sullivan has been associated with huge sets, outrageous costumes and broad acting. With James Zager's fresh approach, MOT will trade the pomp for the circumstance, focusing instead on the mystical story, witty lyrics and enchanting music to re-imagine this timeless classic. Strephon, an Arcadian shepherd, wants to marry Phyllis, a Ward in Chancery. Phyllis does not know that Strephon is half fairy (his upper half — his legs are mortal!) and when she sees Strephon kissing a seemingly young woman, she assumes the worst. But her "rival" turns out to be none other than Strephon's own mother, Iolanthe, a fairy — fairies never grow old. But Phyllis' guardian, the Lord Chancellor, and half the peers in the House of Lords are sighing after her. Soon the peers and the fairies are virtually at war, and long friendships are nearly torn asunder. But all is happily sorted out, thanks to the "subtleties of the legal mind".
