Theater legends Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne welcomed the titans of Broadway and Hollywood – including Noël Coward, Katharine Hepburn and Laurence Olivier – to their secluded Genesee Depot, Wisconsin, retreat. When a young starlet arrives to rehearse the Lunts’ latest production, she unwittingly ignites a romantic triangle that eclipses any on-stage drama. Rep favorite Jeffrey Hatcher (The Government Inspector, Work Song, The Turn of the Screw), has penned a sparkling, witty gem of a play that celebrates a Wisconsin treasure.

Teaming up and blending the musical sounds of their hometowns, they form a brotherhood spanning more than a decade. This rags to riches celebration of the American Dream, featuring Motown and R&B classics including “Chain Gang,” “Sitting on the Dock of the Bay” and “Lonely Teardrop,” triumphantly returns to its own “hometown” after more than a decade of successful productions around the country.

Loosely based on Sheridan’s play of the same name, this comic opera is set in
Newport, Rhode Island around the turn of the last century. An American heiress falls hopelessly in love with a composer and longs for living in ‘‘charming poverty.’’ Her aunt, the infamous Mrs. Malaprop, has more traditional aspirations for her and arranges a marriage with a rich and dashing British Naval Captain. As the rival lovers prepare to duel to the heiress’ hand in marriage, there is a twist that sends things spiraling into hilarity. Music & Libretto by Kirke Mechem

Latino Arts’ seventh annual Noche de Gala is an evening of music and dance, where attendees can show their dedication to cultural arts programming. This year’s fundraiser features music from the award winning Latino Arts Strings Program and local favorites Spanglish, as well as the artist reception for Cuban artist Carlos Estévez’s exhibition Efluvios.

No other musical statement can match its raw power and bracing energy. The new season begins as Music Director Edo de Waart leads the Milwaukee Symphony in Beethoven’s famed Fifth Symphony. This all-Beethoven concert also features the youthful First Symphony. Plus, a tour-de-force: the mesmerizing Grosse Fuge, composed for string quartet but performed here by the full string sections of the Milwaukee Symphony.

Windfall begins its 2011-2012 nineteenth season with the Milwaukee premiere of Theresa Rebeck and Alexandra Gersten-Vassilaros’ critically acclaimed Pulitzer prize nominated Omnium Gatherum; a witty satirical comedy and very serious and timely look at our lives in a post 9/11 world. A “peculiar group” – an espionage novelist, a feminist vegan, an African American minister, a British pundit, a literary critic and an NYC fireman gather for a gourmet feast created by a hostess who believes that nothing enhances a meal better than lively debate. While waiting for the surprise guest of the evening to arrive they discuss food, wine, politics, religion and the massive hole in the New York skyline that has drawn them together. As we pause in remembrance a decade after 9/11 and as we continue to heal and move forward in a post-September 11 world Omnium Gatherum resonates and raises questions about who we are now.
